Dense quark matter in compact stars
نویسنده
چکیده
The densest predicted state of matter is colour-superconducting quark matter, in which quarks near the Fermi surface form a condensate of Cooper pairs. This form of matter may well exist in the core of compact stars, and the search for signatures of its presence is an ongoing enterprise. Using a bag model of quark matter, I discuss the effects of colour superconductivity on the mass-radius relationship of compact stars, showing that colour superconducting quark matter can occur in compact stars at values of the bag constant where ordinary quark matter would not be allowed. The resultant “hybrid” stars with colour superconducting quark matter interior and nuclear matter surface have masses in the range 1.3-1.6 M⊙ and radii 8-11 km. Once perturbative corrections are included, quark matter can show a mass-radius relationship very similar to that of nuclear matter.

Multi fluidity and Solitary wave stability in cold quark matter: core of dense astrophysical objects
Considering the magneto-hydrodynamic equations in a non-relativistic multi uid framework, we study the behavior of small amplitude perturbations in cold quark matter. Magneto-hydrodynamic equations, along with a suitable equation of state for the cold quark matter, are expanded using the reductive perturbation method. It is shown that in small amplitude approximation, such a medium should be co...

Head on collision of localized waves in cold and dense hadronic matter with and without shear and bulk viscosities is investigated. Non-relativistic dynamics of propagating waves is studied using the hydrodynamics description of the system and suitable equation of state. It will be shown that the localized waves are described by solutions of the Burgers equation. Simulations show that the propa...

The phase structure of hot and/or dense QCD is one of the most exciting current topics in the field of strong interactions. In particular, the properties of cold and dense quark matter are of great interest in astrophysics and cosmology; it is now widely accepted that, at moderate densities of relevance for the interior of compact stars, quark matter is a color superconductor and has a rich pha...
متن کاملQuark Color Superconductivity and the Cooling of Compact Stars
The thermal conductivity of the color-flavor locked phase of dense quark matter is calculated. The dominant contribution to the conductivity comes from photons and Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with the breaking of baryon number, both of which are trapped in the quark core. Because of their very large mean free path the conductivity is also very large. The cooling of the quark core arises m...

We consider the general conditions of quark droplets formation in high density neutron matter. The growth of the quark bubble (assumed to contain a sufficiently large number of particles) can be described by means of a Fokker-Planck equation. The dynamics of the nucleation essentially depends on the physical properties of the medium it takes place. The conditions for quark bubble formation are ...
